Saltcon 2025

These are the games which are on my radar.

Speakeasy – Vital Lacerda – You’re crime bosses in 1920s Chicago or New York, I’m not sure which.

Shackleton Base – I only know about this one from pictures but it looks like my jam.

SETI: The Search for Extraterrestrial Life – A eurogame where yo do action s to get resources and then spend those resources for points. That isn’t what entices me though. It has secret aliens which change the game once you discover them. It has cards which do 4 different things, but you only get 1 of them. It has my favorite “Just do A>B>C” loop but you’re tempted by all the different things you could do.

The Vale of Eternity – I mostly want to play this one because the economy is like “There are pennies, nickels, and dimes. You can only ever have 4 coins at once. You can never make change” Obviously dimes are the best, but like, do you want to spend one to buy the thing that costs 3? Or is it worth it to just get 3 pennies instead.

Leviathan Wilds – Co-op Shadow of the Colossus

Arcs – A brutal trick taking space 4x like from Cole Wehrle (Root). The thing that attracts me is hearing new players complain about having bad hands. Then experienced players chime in with “Oh, no all the hands are bad. You never get a good hand. That’s the beauty of it. Eke out what value you can, you fool. You absolute lemon”

Ra – An auction game, which I don’t historically gravitate to. However, this is one of the best, and I like the idea of a field is worth 1 point. A flood is worth 0. But, each flood makes a field worth +1.

Andromeda’s Edge – This is a update of Dwellings of Eldervale. I mostly want to play this because it’s a worker placement but your workers have powers and are different.

Darwin’s Journey – I only know pictures, but the pictures intrigue me.

Galileo Galeli – Also a picture based desire

Phoneix New Horizon – The board looks like something I’d like

Praha Caput Regni – I’ve read the rules of this. It lands in the “every action is good but some are better” category of game. It has a neat rondel which makes certain actions cost more or be worth bonus points. Do you want to build a wall now, or wait til your next turn where it might be worth more points if nobody else does it? Is that a rondel? It’s a spinning wheel, which looks like one, but technically you can always do any action.
