10 Games I want to play very badly (which I already own)

This is partly to test my ability to make a post and also I'm avoiding doing work at my actual job. I'm hoping that doing some writing will oil the gears of focus and get me to spend some time doing the thing I'm paid for.

This last week, I ran a finger across the top of Pandemic Legacy season 2 and the amount of dust which caked my fingers was shameful. I collect board games and those games collect dust.

It's not fun to look at a thing which used to fill me with pride and now tweaks my brain to be annoyed. There are many reasons they haven't been played. I'm not running a regular game night. I'm playing my friends' games when we do something. I don't ask people to come over. This isn't a difficult problem to solve.

But these are the 10 games I own that I really want to get to the table. At the end of the year, I'll look back on this list. I will be happy or sad.

  • Through the Ages
    • Though I've only played the actual game 3 times, I really enjoyed it every time. I don't have any other civilization building games on the shelves, so this holds a unique spot. It's not like any other game I play. I bought an expansion for this and have not opened it.
    • This does have a digital version, which I have heard is just like way better. The digital version of Terraforming Mars is so good it almost replaces the physical one. I wonder if this has the same fate.
  • Forbidden Stars
    • I don't really have many "soldiers on a map" games. But I have been into Warhammer 40k since high school, where a friend (whose name has been lost to the sands of time) and I played a version of it on his pool table.
  • A Feast for Odin
    • I love this game.
  • Star Wars: Rebellion or War of the Ring
    • I really like a 2 player asymmetrical faction game.
    • I got War of the Ring in college and marveled at the fact the board was as big as the bed in my dorm. I carried it
    • I think Rebellion is the worse game, and I have a complicated relationship with Star Wars (all my hobbies really). But damn, it's fun to see my friend Chewbacca.
  • Sidereal Confluence
    • After playing a 3 hours game of this, the table looked at one another and said "Do we wanna just do that again?" And do that again we did.
    • I got the expansion for Christmas and will never play it. It breaks my heart.
  • Spartacus
    • I borrowed this game from a friend, uh, 3 years ago? I have not played it once in that time.
  • Risk Legacy
    • What I actually want is not to play Risk Legacy, but to have 3 friends I see every wednesday for 2 months.
  • Space Alert
    • I got this in a math trade in 2020 and haven't played it yet.
  • Eldritch Horror
    • What does it say about me that I got an expansion for this game too, but haven't played with it yet. That's a theme I've noticed in this list.
  • Legendary Encounters
    • I just wanna find someone who likes this game as much as I do. It's kinda fallen flat every time we've played it. It's a Co-op horror deckbuilder! That is so much of my wheelhouse it's not funny.
